A career working for the world's leading companies

Hong Kong 2023-present

Working for a leading hedge fund (one of these), doing pretty much the same as I did at Manulife. The difference is I sit within IT and Operations function, but the work is driven and cross functional.

Hong Kong 2015-2022

Leading the firm’s strategy execution capabilities across top revenue impacting projects for CEO and Head of Strategy.  This portfolio of projects includes entity mergers, bank assurance deals, portfolio acquisitions, large technology changes, and building new lines of business.

Hong Kong & Singapore  2014-2015

Managed the transfer of $60Bn USD in Fund Administration and Custody assets in 11 countries.  This was a Pan-Asian bancassurance deal between Standard Chartered Bank, Prudential Asia and Eastspring Investments. One of the most complex and pivotal changes to firms working relationship.

Hong Kong & China 2012-2014

Establish a practice focused on strategy and execution for asset managers. The target clients included traditional asset managers, hedge funds, PE funds and family offices.  The work bridged between the Transactions Team and the Advisory Team creating a unique value proposition.

Hong Kong 2011-2012

Led the Asia Pacific business on the implementation of a cross-asset order generation and trading platform for both Fixed Income and Equities. The project was transformative for Fidelity as they moved off of an in-house trading solution and onto an industry standard one that better supported global trading.

Hong Kong 2010

Pioneered process to predict trades by broker from Hong Kong Exchange Level 2 Data. This was significant as broker trades are not provided by the exchange, but can be tracked using predictive modelling.  This enabled greater understanding of broker activity in creating the market for iShares.  The process gave sales a clear strategic advantage in seeing where to focus.

Hong Kong 2009

Extensive work for Asia iShares on the BlackRock / Barclays Global Investors merger. This merger created the world’s largest Asset Manager with 3 trillion dollars of assets under management. The work was demanding as Colony Venture Capital (CVC) was the original purchaser for iShares, and in parallel the team had to also support a full buyout by BlackRock.

San Francisco & Tokyo 2006-2008

Became favored consultant, across multiple businesses and
geographies, providing expertise that enabled teams to deliver critical projects.  Was Head of iShares Strategic Projects group
providing day‐to‐day program management expertise for a group of high priority/complex projects with a budget of $5‐15m USD.  During the Global Financial Crisis relocated to Tokyo to manage a technology build to rapidly allow the un-winding of 4BN USD Fixed Income assets. The project was pivotal in the firms exiting of assets while retaining market liquidity saving the firm and its clients millions of dollars in losses.

Seattle & Asia 2005

Managed tri-party collateral management process which accelerated the firm’s ability to book orders through valuation and collateralization of non-traditional assets.  300m in assets were booked involving eight transactions. In addition ran program to lawfully bring sensitive engineering data into China in a way that bypassed the delays associated with the Chinese Firewall.

US, EU & Asia 2000-2004

Managed the re‐architecture and revitalization of a failing high‐profile global knowledge management system. The $5m USD annual project suffered from significant reliability, scalability and maintainability problems, and was slated for cancellation if significant improvements were not demonstrated within six weeks.   An aggressive ‘triage’ of staff and tech took place and eventually led to the project continuing to be funded and was expanded to become a key part of the GE Capital knowledge management strategy.

Took on other aggressive turn around projects for Senior Leadership across the GE footprint.  This included Business Restructuring and resolving other imperative issues.

Prior to 2000

New York

Executed on projects requiring specialized understanding of asset management. True to management consulting the clients were varied and the work was demanding. One had to be able to both originate work as well as deliver. The work  required a constant drive to bring expertise of the highest levels to the client.

North America & Asia

Consulting engagements with premium global clients in US and Asia. Involved strategy, project delivery and critical thinking. Each of the firms was going through a time of change and needed advisory support. Working as a consultant, the contracts were done personally and were multi-year.

North America & Europe

Founded strategic consulting firm focused on demanding work in political / economic conflict zones.  The work later turned to global corporate work and would be my primary platform for working with clients through to 2012.  The firm still exists today with new owners and new consultants. I remain as a pro-bono advisor.
